Apple Keyboard     Apr 10, 2008

The new Apple keyboard is aesthetically wonderful, and great to type on (it feels a lot like a MacBook keyboard). I have a couple nits to pick with it though:

1. The USB ports are recessed underneath the keyboard, so things such as USB flash drives that are even just a tiny bit wider than the USB port itself won't fit without some sort of extension cord.

2. The reconfigured function/media keys aren't as intuitive as the old layout. The media keys aren't in their own section to the right anymore, and only one expose function is explicitly set. You can change them via software, but all of the function keys have icons stuck on them.

you have to ask? : The greatest phone ever made. I didn't want one initially, but after playing with my friend's iPhone, I fell in love with it. It's brilliantly easy and fun to use.

The biggest change to Mac OS's UI since the change from 9 to X, it doesn't have any single feature as big as some of the features in Panther or Tiger, but the sum of the improvements across the board make Leopard a great value and upgrade from Tiger. The new Finder, with its improved performance, stability, and features, alone makes this worth the purchase price.

Basically an iPhone without the phone/camera, but with twice the storage, better audio interface, twice the storage, and much thinner. If you don't need the phone part of the iPhone, this could be the best portable media player out there.

Great little device. It can act as a wireless router or access point to increase the range of an existing network, and can share a printer via USB. The main attraction is the music streaming through iTunes, which uses an optical mini-jack output to pipe music from your computer to your home stereo system. It sounds great, and is simple to use. You can also use 3rd party applications such as Airfoil from Amoeba Software to output audio from other applications to it.

Apple MB053LLA (MB053LL/A)     Sep 12, 2007

Possibly the best router out there right now, has draft-n wireless which is up to 5x as fast and has 2x the range as wireless-g. In addition, has a USB port that can be used to share a hard drive, DVD drive, or printer over the network. Also, this model has gigabit ethernet ports. Make sure to get this one (MB053LL/A), and not the previous model (MA073LL/A) which looks the same, except its ethernet ports are only 10/100 and not ethernet.

Basically an iPhone without the phone, although significantly thinner, and with a standard headphone jack so you don't have to get an awkward adapter or file your headphone jack to fit it in like the iPhone. It also supports the radio remote and has video output, both of which the iPhone lack.

These guys are great to type on, though I'm not sure why they left off the number pad. It's basically a MacBook keyboard now.

The new apple keyboard that comes with the redesigned iMac is great. It's very thin and feels like typing on a MacBook keyboard. The keyboard comes equipped with two USB 2.0 ports, which are powered if plugged into an aluminum iMac, but unpowered otherwise. They are nice to have, though they're tucked pretty far under the keyboard (they give it its tilt), so plugging in something like a USB memory stick or another device that needs to be flush with the port may be problematic. Also, Apple has moved the volume/eject keys, and added a bunch of media/expose/dashboard keys on the Function key row so to access the F1-F18 keys you have to hold down a function key. The placement of a lot of these special function keys doesn't seem to make much sense either. But overall, it's a great keyboard and an improvement over the old one in the area that really matters: typing.

Apple firewire cables are the best. They're better than other firewire cables because they're so thin, while standard firewire cables are quite thick. They're also white so they match all of my other Apple stuff.

Absolutely essential. Could not do my work without this. Great brightness and color, and is really really ridiculously good looking. Has two USB 2.0 ports and two Firewire 400 ports tucked on the bottom of the back, leaving them easily accessible but hidden. The firewire ports are especially nice as most monitors seem to only come with USB ports. Has touch-sensitive power and brightness controls, ala the third generation iPod.

The new iMac is a work of art, with its body stamped from a single sheet of aluminium. Coupled with the fast 2.8 GHz processor, 24" widescreen, and expandability of up to 4 GB RAM and 1 TB hard drive, this computer is great for just about any task you'd want to throw at it.

Keynote is already light years ahead of Powerpoint, and now with the new transitions and effects, it's even better. Pages is pretty interesting, though in the past it seems to have had an identity crisis about whether it's a word processor or a page layout program. Now with the two modes, it is definitely easier to use for both purposes. I've only used Numbers a little bit, though it looks great.

The easiest to use suite of media creation/editing/consumption programs just got better. The seamless integration with Mac OS X and each other make the iLife programs a breeze to use, whether creating movies with iMovie and then creating a DVD of that with iDVD, or making slideshows and web galleries using iPhoto and iWeb, or composing using GarageBand. One of the main reasons I love my Mac.

Minis are small and quiet, and look great. They make excellent media servers to hook up to your home enetertainment center, and also great computers for people who need a computer without taking up much space.
