A great twist on the ubiquitous black umbrella, designed by Tibor Kalman. Pretty sturdy, I've had mine for a couple years and the velcro closure holding it together when closed has worn out, and the wrist strap thing has also just broken.

Great ruler, doesn't fly very well as a paper airplane though.

this book chronicles the history of book cover design at penguin books, and takes the reader through the different periods of design from the 1930's to present. it provides great insights into the trends of different periods, and what artists were trying to achieve with their covers.

Great for accurate color printing. These books also contain side by side CMYK process alternates for each spot color, so you can use a 4-color process instead if the colors are close enough.

I really wanted this clock when I first saw it, and then I realized I could buy a clock from Target and rearrange the numbers myself, and save about $100. Still, I love the concept.

For some reason I just love this great George Nelson revival clock, every time I go into the MoMA store I want to buy it. Until I see the price tag. Ah well, maybe some day.

This is a fantastic ceramic version of the ubiquitous paper coffee cup you get when you order coffee at any of the hundreds of delis in New York. Not too badly priced either, considering the MoMA store.

Aluminium covers are great cos they won't tear off. The MoMA store is expensive, so I usually wait until they have one of their periodic 20% coupons and then stock up on stuff.

Excellent version of one of the iconic fonts of the 20th century. Some may say it's overused, played out, and boring, but I still think that used well, Helvetica as a lot to offer.

This book has a lot of great typography from the last few years in commercial art and design. It has a lot of varied works, and is a great source of inspiration when I feel uninspired.

Absolutely essential. Could not do my work without this. Great brightness and color, and is really really ridiculously good looking. Has two USB 2.0 ports and two Firewire 400 ports tucked on the bottom of the back, leaving them easily accessible but hidden. The firewire ports are especially nice as most monitors seem to only come with USB ports. Has touch-sensitive power and brightness controls, ala the third generation iPod.

The new iMac is a work of art, with its body stamped from a single sheet of aluminium. Coupled with the fast 2.8 GHz processor, 24" widescreen, and expandability of up to 4 GB RAM and 1 TB hard drive, this computer is great for just about any task you'd want to throw at it.

I would love to have this desk. It is elegant, colorful, fun, and a design icon. Unfortunately it's a tad out of my price range. Alas.

CS3 marks a significant leap from CS2, especially with the former Macromedia apps coming into the Adobe family. All of the applications have gotten fairly large UI changes, and to me, they are mostly for the better. The new palette system in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign work very well for me. Also, having all of the apps as universal binaries is a huge breath of fresh air after running CS2 in rosetta. The only drawback is that they seem even more RAM hungry than CS2, and the 3 GB of RAM I have in my MacBook Pro doesn't seem like enough any more. Still, a worthy upgrade.
