My favorite album of 2007, an incredibly dense, frenetic, and complex album by the 'side project' of Wolf Parade's Spencer Krug.

Towering accomplishment by Stephin Merritt, he recorded over 100 songs for this, and then pared it down to 69 because he felt people wouldn't want to listen to 100. Spans a wealth of genres, jumping from folk to punk to electropop to waltz and back again. Absolutely thrilling to listen to.

Sufjan Stevens - Illinois

My review
A spectacular album of wonderful folk and baroque pop, with lush instrumentation and thoughtful lyrics. Sufjan's 50 states objective may seem like a gimmick, but the depth of knowledge and respect he's shown to Illinois show that it will be an amazing accomplishment if he gets anywhere even near close to completing it.

Great EP from Joanna Newsom. It contains a new track, Colleen, which is epic and fantastic, and also different recordings of Cosmia and Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie. It's a bit pricey, but worth it, especially for fans.

One of the great anti-war albums, one of the first major artists in the post Iraq war era to stand up and say something is wrong with the way the Government is handling the situation through their music.

One of my favorite albums of all time. John Squire's guitar work, Ian Brown's detached vocals, and the driving drums and bass work of Mani and Reni fused to make an epic, groundbreaking record.

classic album from a classic band. showcasing the furries at their best, has elements of pop, rock, techno, folk, all whimsically weaved together as only SFA can. the closer, slow life, which unfolds in three phases, is one of my all time favorite Super Furry Animals songs.

This is a truly remarkable album. The indie harpist's sophomore outing shows her take the next step from her already excellent debut, and crafts an album of five long, intricate, and beautiful songs, that are sung in her beautiful, haunting, and original voice.

Wonderful fourth album from the great Canadian indie pop band. Another collection of heartfelt, moving, genuine songs with wonderfully lush and interesting instrumentation. As always, Amy Millan's voice is absolutely enchanting. She could be reading the phone book and I would be entranced.

arguably the greatest album from arguable the greatest band over the past 10 years. the raw emotion and power that comes through this album is unmatched by any of their previous works. if this is truely their last album, sleater-kinney went out on top, and went out with a bang.
