My review
My MacBook Pro is one of the first builds; 1.83, 80gb etc. This was an upgrade from the PowerBook Titanium predecessor. I feel the Intel runs a bit slower than the older PowerBook, but the other updated programs and functions outweigh the slight difference therein. So long OSX9, hello emulator powered Windows!

Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar (Ebony Chrome)
Added Mar 16, 2008
My rating
Description
The arrival of the Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar in 1983 offered guitarists all the essential elements of a Les Paul Standard, including a carved top and humbucking pickups. Its simple yet elegant design quickly helped it become the most popular model in the Les Paul Series. Cutting-yet-rich toneâthe hallmark of the Les Paulâpours out of the 490R and 498T Alnico II magnet humbucker pickups, which are mounted on a carved maple top with a mahogany back. The Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar includes a Gibson hardshell case and a limited lifetime warranty.
My review
I purchased mine back in 1996. It's been my main choice for both studio & stage. I upgraded to Gibson's Burstbucker Pro pickups recently. It is a solid guitar and a solid investment.

Dean Markley Pro Mag SC-1 Acoustic Guitar Pickup
Added Mar 16, 2008
My rating
Description
Dean Markley pickups are the number one choice of many top performing acoustic guitarists. The single coil Pro Mag SC-1 delivers responsive, warm tone with crystal-clear highs; natural sounding midrange; and smooth, round bass. Natural curly maple design enhances any acoustic guitar. Handmade in the USA
My review
This pickup won't make your acoustic sound like a molded bodied Ovation type, which I can't stand, seeing as how it's magnifying the sound of the strings at the sound-hole, not the bridge. One of the better acoustic pickups, but now a bit archaic in design. It is prone to feedback at stage volume, I recommend using a noise-gate.

EMG-89 Dual Mode HUMBUCKING Active Guitar Pickup
Added Mar 16, 2008
My rating
Description
Inside the EMG-89 guitar pickup are both single and dual-coil pickups, each with its own output. The single-coil mode is an Alnico-loaded stacked EMG-SA. The dual-coil mode consists of two Alnico-loaded coils opposite one another, creating a pickup similar to the EMG-85. A push/pull volume or tone enables you to switch from the clarity of a single-coil to the fatness of a humbucking. Virtually noiseless in both modes. The EMG-89 humbucker's separate outputs give you option to utilize EMG tone enhancing accessory circuits on either pickup output.
My review
I've had these installed on several guitars and they always great. The single coil feature is similar to what you'll get by coil-tapping a humbucker, not what you'd get from a Fender Strat. The overall sound is smooth and sustain, plentiful. Not a feedback friendly pickup, which is great for live shows, unless severe feedback induced harmonics are your thing.

Ernie Ball 2223 Nickel Super Slinky Pink Electric Guitar ...
Added Mar 16, 2008
My rating
Description
Gauges 9-11-16-24w-32-42. Nickels are the most popular of the Ernie Ball Slinky guitar strings. They're made from nickel-plated steel wire wrapped around tin-plated hex-shaped steel core wire. They produce a well-balanced all-around good sound. Ernie Ball strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and most exacting specs to assure consistency, optimum performance, and long life. Ernie Ball is the pioneer of rock and roll guitar strings. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Steve Vai, and Slash are among the long list of Slinky players.
My review
These strings offer great bending capabilities (esp. on fixed bridge guitars). When they're first installed they can sound a bit bright (though some people like this), but they start to blend well after a week of use. The smoother tone of a used string sounds better to me when I'm recording. I don't generally feel I need to replace strings unless they're broken, or when they no longer stay in tune.
